How many people will there be on the
yacht?
The maximum to each boat is five students so plenty of room.
Does the price include everything?
Yes, it includes all course fees, books, exam fees, bedding,
fuel and accommodation. A food allowance is provided for
Yachtmaster courses and other courses have up to 3 meals on
board provided.
What money
do I need?
Gibraltar is in the £ sterling area so there are no worrying
exchange rates to think about. It is always a good idea to have
some euros though. We do spend evenings in Spain and Ceuta on
nearly all our courses.
What flights are included in the price?
Flights are not included in the price.
What else
is included in the fastrack Yachtmaster course?
At least two weeks are spent in a shore based classroom to teach
you: Day Skipper theory, Coastal Skipper Theory, navigation,
rules of the road and weather. The one-day courses such as sea
survival, first aid, VHF, are held during your stay.
Is there an exam?
Yes, you will be tested at the end of both theory courses by
sitting formal RYA papers. All the RYA practical qualifications
except Yachtmaster are obtained by formal assessment by the
school. The Yachtmaster qualification is conducted by a
completely independent RYA examiner at the end of your course.
How far
do we sail and where?
Numerous places for example Mediterranean Spanish coast plus
Moroccan coast, the Algarve in Portugal. Over 2600 miles, over
55 different ports and anchorages to navigate into.
Do I
have to cook any meals?
Yes, it is all part of the fun, as a skipper you will be cooking
some of the time.
Can this course be regarded
as a bit of a holiday?
No, definitely not. Whilst there may be some quiet times on long
trips, there will always be jobs to do. Boat maintenance is a
requirement at all times and when that is done, you always have
your studies to do. The Yachtmaster qualification requires a
fully rounded individual who is capable of coping with just
about any situation confidently. That being said, there is
always time to have fun. Usually the courses are a balanced mix
of having a great time with unforgettable moments and a
professional attitude towards safety, responsibility and
learning.
What
gear do I need with me?
Good wet weather suit and life jacket harness, hat, deck shoes,
good sunglasses and normal clothes (to cover all weathers
including tropical). If you're not sure what to buy ask us for
some advice.
