Coastal Skipper

Your ticket to RYA Coastal Skipper qualification.

RYA Coastal Skipper (Tidal) This 5-day course of navigation and seamanship is a widely recognised RYA qualification.

 The aim of RYA Coastal Skipper Course is to teach you the skills and techniques required to skipper a yacht safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night.

The RYA Coastal Skipper Course is for those with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation.

(for gaining the course completion certificate)
Pre-course experience 15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours
Assumed Knowledge Boat handling to the standard of the Day Skipper practical sail cruising course and navigation to the standard of the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shore based course
Course content Passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations
Ability after course Skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night
Minimum duration 5 days
   
  Coastal Skipper exam pre-requisites
(for gaining the certificate of competence)
Minimum sea-time 30 days, 2 days as skipper, 800 miles, 12 night hours (if you hold the Coastal Skipper course certificate this is reduced to 20 days, 2 days as skipper, 400 miles, 12 night hours)
Form of exam Practical
Certification required VHF/SRC and first aid certificates
Minimum exam duration 6-10 hours for 1 candidate, 8-14 hours for 2 candidates

Your instructor will sign your logbook to enable you to keep a record of your sea miles and syllabus completed. You will also receive a certificate upon your successful completion of the course following assessment by an RYA Examiner.

The cost of our RYA Coastal Skipper 5 day course includes your accommodation on board your yacht, bedding, mooring fees, fuel, foul weather clothing, breakfasts, lunches and drinks (non alcoholic).  

Come sailing in the sunny, tidal waters around Gibraltar and visit Morocco, Ceuta and Spain.

Warm sunny climate and friendly instruction with fun and adventure at the centre of every course. We work hard and play hard so expect to be worn out at the end of the week but with many memorable moments on the way.
